375 - Turning Club Meeting - 3/Mar/2012

The theme for this week was the Lace Bobbin.

Several members supported this theme and demonstrated the turning intricacy and detail often given to Lace Bobbins. Colin Brown brought two old Bone bobbins, from about 1856, as used by family professional lace makers. Peter Kemp's bobbins included delicate spirals.

Examples of thin walled work included a hollow form by Tino Dejesus, an Easter Egg by Alwyn Moorbey and a shallow bowl by John Cheesbrough.

Allen Atkins and Roy Boulton both demonstrated making square cornered bowls/dishes. Roy also demonstrated thin walled cup forms plus a lidded box with phyrography stencil shapes. Allen meanwhile created another Bird plus a bottle stopper.

The theme for next week will be to create a Mushroom/Toadstool.
