350 Turning Club Meeting - 28/Jan/2012

Colin Brown outlined the use of his jig for segmented forms. He brought a bowl with a colourful reticulated rim. Colin King brought Western theme pens, an ornate cased magnifying glass and a Serviette Display/Holder, John Johnson a 4 legged stool and "mystery object', Debbie Piggott a large clock. Still on the clock theme - John Cheesbrough had a selection of Fob Watches, Allen Atkins a "Summer House" clock with rotating clock mount plus a Bud Vase in Ash and Goncalo Alves. Bill Foster's carving skills were demonstrated with his carved Mahogany dog on an Oak platter. Bill Puttick created a Candlestick for large candles. Brian Inwood created a bunch of grapes in a magnificent Birds Eye Maple bowl.

Meanwhile Roy demonstrated texturing using a Decorating Elf and other texturing tools - Debbie had a go too and they created the textured discs. Roy created the Thimble box with finial and then a box with a textured lid.

Allen demonstrated techniques for deep hollow forms. Mark Wardle then showed a range of home made tools and tool handles. Many of the cutters are made from large nails. He demonstrated their effectiveness and his skills by producing a very narrow necked "Gourd"/Sea Anemone/Hollow form.
