Turning Club - 24/Sep/2016

Woods shown included Sycamore, Mahogany, Yew, Apple (wood), Walnut, Zebrano and Holm Oak (speckled).

Pieces shown included a set of spectacle stands; a natural edged dish in Yew; apples in Yew and Sycamore; a bowl with textured outer rim (thread chaser grooves); an old flame ebonised bowl with ageing cracks; a lidded box with wire brushed annual growth rings; using contrasting woods - Apple, Walnut, Mahogany and Holm Oak (speckled) - Peter Broadhurst created a pen display case with pen plus a separate pen and a key fob - with hidden compartment; and finally - a large flat bottomed bowl in Sycamore with the outside decorated with beading.

Roy Boulton demo'd bowl finishing techniques and created a bobbin in zebrano ... plus more ....

Allen Atkins demo'd brought three completed wide rimmed dishes with marbling. He created a hollow form using very hard Elm - it failed but showed the different internal hard/soft growth areas; he then completed a lidded box in Walnut.
