Turning Club - 07/Mar/2015.

Woods shown included Cherry, Sycamore, Yew, Oak, Horse Chestnut, Ash, burred Elm, brown Oak, Banksia nut, Alder and segmentation (mahogany plus contrasting light wood).

Pieces shown included - a Cherry dish, a cane in Ash with Horse Chestnut head and gold gilt; a four cornered dish in Sycamore, a wide rimmed dish with gold gilding and ebonising, an oak dish with a strong feature in the rim; a long stemmed Oak goblet with captive ring; a segmented lidded box; a Yew dish on a natural branch stand and a Japanese Inro plus Netski. The Inro is a container for Buddhist prayer beads and the Netski is a carved Hare which holds the Inro in place as it hangs from the Kimono waist band.

Allen Atkins demo'd turning a dish with gilding (ongoing), a natural edged bowl in burred Elm and a plate in brown Oak.

Meanwhile Roy Boulton demo'd techniques for refinished a dish, and created a Pomander in Banksia (nut) and Alder.
