Turning Club - 17/Oct/2015

Professional turner Simon Hope returned again with five challenging demonstrations.

The first was the creating of a sphere as part of an offset turning piece.

Next was a dressmaking tape measure holder - the tape is inside a bell shaped holder with parts threaded together (how to harden the threads) and the tape is wound in by rotating the handle.

The hollow sphere demo showed Simon using a sphere cutting tool - for the outside shape. Simon them showed his Easy Arm Hollow Tool - initially to roughly hollow the sphere and then, with the optional camera - to precisely hollow to a required wall thickness. See Simon's website for more details of the Hollowing Jig and other tools Hope Woodturning.

Next he showed Involuted turning. Four square section pieces are accurately held in a slotted cone shaped accessory. He showed how to create an involuted Christmas tree and a Fairy.

Finally he created an unusual lidded box - the body was shaped and then beaded and hollowed. The lid was fitted and a pewter textured ring added together with a twig form Blackwood finial.
